Patient AI Summary is a DocVilla EHR feature that generates a concise, AI-written overview of a patient’s recent clinical history from the encounters you choose. A provider opens the patient, picks how many past appointments to include, clicks Generate, and gets a structured recap — chief complaints and history, assessments and plans, past medical history, allergies, medications, and family history — in a few hundred words instead of a scroll through months of notes. It’s built for the minute before a visit, for the patient you haven’t seen in a year, and for the colleague covering a panel they don’t know.
What Patient AI Summary Does
Charts accumulate. A long-standing patient can carry dozens of encounters, and the information a provider actually needs before walking into the room — what’s been going on, what’s been tried, what to watch — is scattered across all of them. Patient AI Summary reads the encounters you select and produces a single, consistent summary of that history so the provider starts the visit oriented rather than hunting.
The summary is built from the clinical documentation already in the DocVilla chart for the selected encounters: the chief complaint and history of present illness, the SOAP note, past medical history, allergies, past medications, and family history. It is written in fixed sections so every summary reads the same way, and it flags values that look garbled or contradictory in the source notes so the provider knows what to verify in the chart.
How It Works
- Open the patient. From a consult (encounter) or from the patient profile, click Actions and choose Patient AI Summary (or Generate AI Summary from the profile).
- Choose the scope. Select the number of recent appointments to include — the last visit, the last several, or a longer stretch of history.
- Generate. Confirm, and the summary is produced in a moment.
- Review it. Generated summaries are listed with the service dates they cover, newest at the top; click the view icon to read one. Earlier summaries stay available, so a provider can compare a fresh recap against one generated before a prior visit.
Nothing leaves the chart or requires another system: the summary is generated inside DocVilla, from DocVilla’s own records, and stored with the patient.
Where It Helps Most
- Pre-visit preparation — a two-minute recap before each appointment instead of re-reading prior notes.
- Returning patients with long histories — chronic-care panels in primary care, psychiatry, pain management, endocrinology, and weight management, where the thread across visits matters more than any single note.
- Covering providers and new clinicians — a consistent orientation to a patient someone else has been managing.
- Practices adding providers — a shared, uniform way to hand off history as the panel grows.
What It Is Not
Patient AI Summary is a review aid. It does not diagnose, it does not write the note for the current visit, and it does not replace the chart or the provider’s clinical judgment. DocVilla’s guidance is explicit: compare the summary with the original documentation, verify clinically important details — medications, allergies, diagnoses, dates, and follow-up items — and resolve any discrepancy before using the information for patient care or documentation. It is also not an ambient scribe: it summarizes what has already been documented rather than listening to a visit. For documentation at the point of care, DocVilla offers medical dictation as an add-on and works with browser-based ambient scribe tools.
Availability and Usage
Patient AI Summary is an add-on subscription feature for practices on the DocVilla EHR. Usage is measured in AI tokens consumed when a summary is generated, so cost scales with how much history is processed and how often the feature is used. Practice administrators can monitor consumption at any time under Location Admin → Reports → Statistics, and export the usage report. For current subscription details, see the plans and pricing page or ask during a demo.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Patient AI Summary an AI scribe?
No. An ambient scribe listens to the visit and drafts the note; Patient AI Summary reads the encounters already documented in the chart and summarizes them for review before or during a visit. The two solve different problems and can be used together.
Does the summary diagnose or recommend treatment?
No. It organizes documented history so the provider is oriented faster. Clinical decisions, and verification of anything in the summary, remain with the provider.
Which encounters does it use?
The ones you select — you choose the number of recent appointments to include each time you generate a summary, so the scope can be one visit or a longer history.
Is it included in my DocVilla plan?
It is an add-on, metered by AI token usage, with a usage report available to practice administrators. See the pricing page or schedule a demo for details.
See It on Your Own Charts
Patient AI Summary is part of DocVilla’s cloud-based EHR — charting, scheduling, e-prescribing with EPCS, telehealth, a patient portal, and integrated medical billing in one platform, rated 4.9/5 from 178 reviews across Capterra, Software Advice, and GetApp. In a live demo, ask to see a summary generated on a multi-visit patient and compare it against the notes it came from.
